COURSE INAUGURATION AND ORIENTATION PROGRAMME (2022-24)

The govt.college of teacher education ,Thycaud conducted course inauguration and orientation programme for first us on 27th and 28th ,october,2022.In this orientation programme all the Faculty members deliberated words of advice/suggestions .The different sessions of orientation programme were handled by Sri.Rahul V R , Smt. Sheena Elizabet Varghese, Dr.Anju I, Smt.Shiba T C,Dr.Joly S,Dr.Jayakrishna,Dr. Rajashree K, Sri Roshkumar B S and Dr.Isaac Paul.The course inauguration was done by Dr.Jayaprakash R K (Director,SCERT,Kerala).

The chief guest explained the imporance of teaching profession and shared his experiences also.

The major objective of the programme was to make the students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the institute.In my opinion, the orientation was very helpful.I got an idea about the syllabus and the course.

The importance of a teacher in the society is great. Teachers have the very important responsibility of shaping the lives of young, impressionable children. With this responsibility comes great pride and joy. Therefore all teachers should strive for what can be considered to be a "good teacher." A good teacher can be defined as someone who always pushes students to want to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting as well as creative. A positive or negative influence from a teacher early on in life can have a great effect on the life of a child. Teachers, especially at the elementary level, must be very creative with their teaching styles. Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things. It is difficult to keep the attention of 15-20 children under the age of ten. Classroom setup and design is a good way to get and keep the attention of students. Workstations are a good way to encourage different types of learning. By allowing children a chance to choose which activities they want to participate in, children are taking control of their own education. At the elementary level, children are always learning and sometimes don't even know it.

A teacher is an important person in a student’s life. The teacher shapes the student in a similar way as a pot maker shapes the mud pot and makes it perfect for use. Moreover, teachers are an integral part of the education system. They play multiple roles in which they do their duties with full responsibilities. These include facilitating learning material for students, creating a conducive learning environment, designing and preparing lessons, engaging students with the community by performing different activities, and contributing to schools’ development. If they are left with the time, they engage themselves to boost their teaching skills through workshops and training sessions. These activities also make teachers motivated, highly skilled, and well resourced to perform to the best of their abilities.

One of the important roles of a teacher is to facilitate students’ learning and support them in achieving their learning outcomes. As teachers, many times, they might get puzzled by the fact that, despite putting in the best effort, the students are not performing to the best of their potential. Self-reflection and introspection of teacher’s practices, inside and outside the classroom, will help one understand some of the aspects that require further modification and improvement. The teacher may be already practising some of the innovative pedagogical approaches in the classroom that might be very effective for enriching the teaching-learning process.

The self-assessment of the teachers is also crucial. It helps in the professional growth of teachers as well as serves as a guide to improve their teaching methodology. The role that a teacher expects includes designing the activities for the classroom, resources, learning outcomes, pedagogical strategies and assessment procedures to meet the needs of all students. The teacher helps understand the subject content and course curriculum and provides relevant learning material for students.

Teachers collaborate with parents, students and communities to develop a positive school environment for students that enhances their physical and mental growth. The teacher engages students in classroom studies in an interactive and innovative way. It results in enhanced student learning and growth. Moreover, teachers also take the initiative by contributing to various activities, which lead to the schools’ and students’ development.

The orientation was an eye opener...I understood that, the role of a teacher in the development of society is inevitable....🙏
